2018

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

  1. Page 7 of the RFP says we need to submit only one original of the full proposal and one electronic copy on CD or flash drive. Elsewhere in the RFP it requires also including two paper copies of the full proposal; are the additional two copies required?

Please submit one original and two (2) paper copies (both the narrative application and the budget/budget narrative) as well as one electronic copy of the complete application on CD.

  2. Page 7 of the RFP says single-spacing may be used on Attachment I; but does NYSED actually mean single-spacing is allowed on Attachment II? (If not -- is single-spacing allowed on Attachment II?)

Single-spacing is allowed on Attachment II.

  3. The second paragraph on page 9 of the RFP talks about college students mentoring groups of four students “who have been accepted to a college from the participating district.” Are those high school students? We’re not clear how the timing would work, as most high school seniors don’t know by the end of the grant period (December) if they’ve been accepted to college or not. Or is the intent that this mentoring would take place beyond the grant period? And to be clear, can you confirm these students who would be mentored are in addition to the two MBK Fellows, who will have their own adult mentors from the partnering organizations?

The college students would mentor high school graduating seniors (Class of 2018). The mentoring is intended to take place during the summer to ensure that the high school seniors who have been accepted to college actually enroll in the Fall of 2018.

  4. Do the college students mentioned in the second paragraph on page 9 need to be from the college that signs the MOA? What if we choose not to partner with a college; can we then recruit those students from any college? And is that the help SED will provide, with recruiting mentors (as stated in the first sentence in that paragraph)?

Due to the timing of the grant awards, we will extend flexibility for the college mentors to come from colleges that are in addition to the college that is your partner. NYSED can provide lists of Opportunity Program Directors, if needed.

  5. On the list of allowable expenses on page 13 of the RFP: is the travel line intended for the adult mentors from the partnering organizations and the two fellows only? Or is that also intended to be used by the college students serving as mentors and their students?

The travel line can be used to support the college mentors.

  6. On the list of allowable expenses on page 13 of the RFP: is the travel line intended for the adult mentors from the partnering organizations and the two fellows only? Or is that also intended to be used by the college students serving as mentors and their students?

The travel line can be used to support the college mentors.

  7. What is the maximum possible award per applicant?

    The maximum award is $11,900.

  8. Are funds only allowed for the stipends and travel as listed in the application?

Due to the timing of the awards, NYSED may come out with additional opportunities to expend travel and stipend allocations in the grant award.

  9. The budget chart has columns for the Partner (IHE OR CBO) and other fund sources, is this required?

Matching funds are not required. However, if matching funds are contributed to the grant, they can be reflected in columns 2 and 3 of the chart (Attachment V).
